This historic museum structure was New England's first academy for black girls, established by Prudence Crandall in 1833-34. The State of Connecticut funded our comprehensive survey and master planning study for this structure, originally constructed in 1805. To complete the project, we worked in conjunction with the Connecticut Historical Commission, the property's owner and administrator, and the Connecticut Department of Public Works.
